More About Me

Favorite Movie:

The Shawshank Redemption

Favorite Book:

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

Favorite Food:

Almost everything, except raisins, sultanas, prunes, durian and pig's brain. I am a 'flexitarian', i.e. flexible about what I eat.

Favorite Music:

Mainly indie and folk, but anything that has been given consideration and has heart I can appreciate. I get a kick out of discovering new music (yay for Spotify), particularly bands with obscure names like Trampled by Turtles, Lost in the Trees and Bear's Den. Justin Bieber sucks!

Dress Style:

Comfortable, occasion-appropriate.

Humor:

Witty, sometimes a little wicked ;)

Hobbies & Interests:

The Outdoors (walking, hiking, camping, fishing), the Arts (drawing, painting, theatre, dance), photography, geopolitics, debate, research, philosophy, writing, listening to music, training teachers, wine tasting, cooking, food, learning new and discovering things, travelling to off the beaten-track places.

Travelled:

Been to: Namibia, England, Scotland, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Egypt, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos. Would love to see the whole world before I die!

Cultural Adaption:

I love learning about and exploring all cultures.

Romance:

Unpretentious, with good company, cheer and plenty of good food and wine. I enjoy adventure as much as just kicking back and chilling out.

Personality:

I don't really like placing pigeon-holing and labelling myself or others, as such, but generally-speaking, I think I am an ambivert, am open-minded and I get on with people from all walks of life.

I can be friendly, modest, down-to-earth, creative, a little quirky and eccentric at times. I am a realist (sometimes idealistic), and I have a strong sense of fairness and hate to see people treated unfairly,

I have been told I am considerate, kind, playful (but not childish), sometimes serious, centrist with liberal leanings, generally calm and level-headed and loyal. I am independent, confident and have a healthy sense of self (but not a ball-basher, lol), secure, unpretentious, honest.

I can also be blunt, opinionated, moody (especially pre-morning coffee or if I am 'hangry'!) and an occasional pain in the arse.

Ultimately, you'd have make up your own mind about me, as this can all be very subjective.

My Perfect Match is:

It is important to me for people to be comfortable in their own skin, have a healthy sense of self, but not be arrogant, over-judgmental, self-indulgent or pretentious and someone who understands that nobody is perfect. In addition to this. Somebody who places value in meaningful communication and can hold up a good conversation about a wide variety of things, is held in high regard.

I love good old-fashioned bear hugs, a good laugh, a meaningful conversation, balanced with chats about a range of topics, including music, politics, food, wine, coffee, travel and the occasional chat about how bizarre and mysterious our world truly is at times - we're certainly living in interesting times! Down-to-earth, honest interactions are highly valued. I appreciate that people are all different and that men and women do think differently. Generally-speaking, we are simply just wired differently. It’s neither a good thing nor a bad thing, and I believe we should all strive to complement each other and not always try to outdo or break one another down, as we all have our own unique strengths, weaknesses and abilities that make us special and this ought to be celebrated, not judged and berated.

As good-intentioned as many people are relating to identity politics, I have no interest in telling people what they ought to be thinking nor how they should be behaving. These divide and conquer strategies are detrimental to society and I refuse to adhere and capitulate. I do not want to be a man, nor do I expect men to be these self-defeated, self-loathing, simpering, self-proclaimed feminists and apologists. We are not meant to be one-dimensional, homogenous, boring beings! Having said this, soap-box aside, I also like being surprised :)

I am an eternal student, in a vast array of areas, including academics, esoteric, personal and spiritual growth. I appreciate people who strive to be the best possible version of themselves and who challenge and encourage me to the best possible version of myself I can be, even if it means pointing out some uncomfortable truths, but who will also respect, appreciate and accept me for who I am. In return, they would be given the same respect and admiration.

My main objectives for joining this website: to be quite honest, I don’t particularly have a definite agenda or endgame in sight, as such. I guess the primary reason for joining is to make some new connections, have a change of pace, learn new things, possibly make some new friends, and who knows, perhaps something a little more serious further down the road. This is a possibility that I’m not completely adverse to, but this is certainly not at the top of my list of priorities, it would just be an added bonus, should I be fortunate enough.

Safety Tip - Protect yourself from domestic violence

Most countries such as the USA, Australia, UK etc have extensive laws and support systems to protect women from domestic violence. If you ever find yourself in an abusive relationship seek help immediately from the police or other support services. In most circumstances your visa status will be protected if you are in an abusive relationship. You do not need to stay in an abusive relationship to protect your visa status if you are from another country.
